You can register with KFS by taking the following steps:
- Join our Talent Network! Upload your resume in just a few short steps. Your information will be entered into our database for our staffing coordinators to connect with you when your skills match our needs.
- If you are a match for a position, you may receive a call from our recruiter in approximately three days.
- You may also need to complete state or program specific forms. They will be forwarded to you by a KFS representative.
KFS has both internal employment positions as well as independent contracting positions. This will be noted on the description of the position. If you are an independent contractor, you are not an employee.
Being a 1099 independent contractor means that you are self-employed and will receive 1099 compensation for your services.
As an independent contractor, it is your decision to accept, decline, or resign a position offered to you. You are responsible for your own tax deductions and benefits. KFS will not deduct any payroll taxes such as those for Social Security, FICA, FUTA, SDI, Medicare, etc. As an independent contractor, KFS does not provide any benefits such as healthcare insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid vacation days or paid sick leave. No. Registering with KFS is not a guarantee that opportunities will be available and/or located. KFS works hard with our recruiting department and our coordinators to locate professionals that fit the needs of the individuals we serve. If an opportunity is not immediately available, we encourage our professionals to keep connected with us to find out when a new opportunities becomes available.

Typically, a response can be expected within three business days. You can also reach out to the appropriate KFS office location at any time to check the status of your submission.
If a case is available in your area that matches your specific interests and skillset, you will be contacted by a KFS coordinator. We work on recruiting individuals that best match our individual’s needs. However, cases are filled on a first-come basis. If you have questions about getting an assignment, you can call your contact from your local KFS office.
The number of assignments varies on a daily basis. Please reach out to your local KFS office to discuss available opportunities once you have been fully registered.
Any candidate seeking to contract through KFS must be able to work in the United States legally without restriction.

Your compensation cycle depends on your position. For professionals working directly with individuals in the field, billable compensation information received prior to the cutoff will be processed within the week. If received after the cutoff, processing will occur the following week. Before accepting a referral assignment, an hourly, flat or project rate is established. This can be negotiated and may change from contract to contract. Compensation may be received through E-Pay (electronic pay) so you can have the compensation directly deposited into your bank account, or mailed through the United States Post Office.
No. While contracting through KFS, you are in control of your career decisions. You have the freedom to accept or decline any assignment presented. However, in order for us to source the best fit for you, please speak with a representative about what type of opportunities you are interested in (or not interested in). This includes things like commuting time, experience level, population type, facility type, work-life balance, ongoing college courses, public transportation, etc. These can be things that we factor in so we can best suit your schedule.
Your first line of help is to contact the recruiter or coordinator serving you. They are there to help you and provide customer service. If you cannot get satisfactory support from them, please reach out to the program director at the office in which your assignment is located. If you feel your problem/question cannot be resolved you may also contact the state program director or executive director. They can be reached at our main office number: 877-384-1729.

You are free to register with multiple agencies at the same time. If you want to be registered with several different agencies, it is your right to do so and select the opportunities that best suit you.
